Service Design & Lean UX

As a supplier to the UK Gov Digital Outcomes and Specialists framework the Discovery, Alpha, Beta, Live process is an excellent methodology to follow when faced with solving design and business problems in an agile environment. At the core of this is lean UX where feedback and iteration are favoured over polish as you move towards the live solution.

Design Sprints & Swarms

Need to find robust solutions fast to design problems? Google Ventures’ design sprints provide an excellent framework to work with. Run over 5 days a design sprint will provide you a tested prototype to push your project forward. Similarly swarms (typically 1 – 2 days) are an excellent highly collaborative way to solve UX problems in an aglie environment.

DISCOVERY, USER RESEARCH & DESIGN

Design Sprints

Find design solutions fast. I have successfully run design sprints that provide fully tested prototypes and backlogs for developers that fit within an Agile 2 week sprint window. Collaboration with developers, product managers and the client are essential ingredients to success.

Usability Testing

From making sure you recruit the right users to understanding their journeys, building scenarios and writing test scripts designed to explore the issues at hand are the essential ingredients to a successful session. Once completed post test analysis and prioritised recommendations ensure the most important findings are dealt with first.

Prototyping; paper and wireframe

Ideas start as hand drawn sketches. Paper prototypes help quickly outline the initial structure of a solution, fast to edit and by their nature loose in design they help kick start the discussion. Interactive, responsive Axure prototypes help clients to get an clearer idea of the solution before design starts – excellent for user testing to quickly highlight problem areas.

User Research

Using research methods ranging from one on one stakeholder interviews to group discussions with the target audience. I use this information to create insight into what should be built as opposed to what the client thinks needs building.

Persona Creation

Build an understanding of who the target audience is and what their needs are by creating detailed personas. These personas are then referenced through out the creative process by the client and team to ensure what is built is right.

Discovery

Discuss project requirements with stakeholders – from marketing / sales / customer relations departments to C-level stakeholders and users to fully understand what is required and iron out any in-consistencies in the brief. Perform ethnographic research, where possible.

  • Jonathon is an excellent UX Lead and someone who I very much enjoyed working with and having on the Biglight team. He consistently delivered a high standard of work for the client and did an awesome job at bringing the team together and initiating new collaborative lean UX approaches which raised the standard of the whole scrum team. Jonathon Drury

I was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and lived there until the age of seven when I emigrated to the UK. I attended the University of Westminster achieving a B.Sc. First Class Hons. Degree in Photography and Electronic Imaging Sciences.

After several years working in the publishing industry in the UK, I moved to southern Spain where I live inbetween contract roles in Europe. I am married with two fantastic children.

I have traveled extensively and enjoy new cultures and experiences.
